Frequently Asked Questions

Power Supply

Voltage is what makes electric charges move. Voltage is measured in Volts and is denoted by V.

There are two types of voltages associated with power supplies, Input voltage which is AC and Output voltage which is DC.

Mains voltage from the socket in the wall in India delivers 230V. Most European countries also deliver 230V. In USA it’s 110V and in Japan the mains voltage is 100V.

NRG Power Supplies has a Travel Ready Universal Input Voltage range from 85V AC to 265V AC.

Current is the rate of flow of electric charge. Current is measured in Ampere and denoted by A or Amps (This Amps is not related to the colloquial term for amplifiers).

Considering the amount of current needed for any effect pedal, milliampere, which is 1/1000 of ampere, is generally used as the unit to describe current draw for an effect pedal. Milliampere is denoted by mA.

Myth: My pedal specification says Current = 0.3 Amps. A power supply of 1 Amp will damage my pedal.

Truth: Your pedal will draw 0.3 Amps current from the power supply and your pedal will not get damaged.

AC is an abbreviation for Alternating Current where as DC is for Direct Current.

AC is supplied from the mains line, i.e. the 3 pin socket at our home, and is generally required by big appliances like AC, Refrigerator, Fans etc.

DC is supplied from a DC power supply, like NRG, and is mostly required by smaller electrical gadgets like our phone, guitar pedal, guitar processors, keyboards, electric drums etc.

A regulated power source is a power source without voltage fluctuations, where as an unregulated power source does not guarantee steady voltage. Regulation is what that stops the voltage from fluctuating. This term is used for output of power supply.

All musical instruments works in regulated power supply unit.

Isolated and common ground, this two terms are associated with power supply output. An Isolated power supply must have more than one output where all outputs are separated and do not have any common electrical connections between other ports. This is basically a good way to isolate noisy pedals to stop interference into other ports connections. It is a wiser choice to use Isolated power supply if two or more high gain pedals are used.

On the other hand the common ground power supply also has more than one output but all ports share a common ground path. Thus interference on one port could affect the other ports output.

Noise can be caused from various sources. Incorrect instrument setup, faulty cables, noisy AC mains line, Electro Magnetic and Radio Frequency Interferences (EMI & RFI), faulty instrument power supply are some of the main reasons.

NRG power supply eleminates all possible causes that generates audible noise in the power supply. So, all noise related issues arising from power supply can be removed by using NRG.

NRG Power Supply Series

NRG Power Supplies come with a range of protections in 3 areas, Input, Output and Internal.

  • Input Side – Over Voltage and Surge Protection
  • Output Side – Short Circuit, Over Voltage and Over Load Protection
  • Internal – Over Heat / Thermal protection

Of course, NRG Power Supplies will work in countries other than India.

NRG Power Supplies are Travel Ready.

It has a Universal Input Voltage range from 85V AC to 265V AC.

Yes, you can use a daisy chain cable with NRG Power Supplies.

Make sure that the total accumulated current draw do not exceed the Maximum Current Rating of the NRG Power Supply you are using.

Check your Amplifier first. Disconnect the guitar input from your amplifier and turn the gain and volume to the full. If no noise, your amplifier is not causing it.

Connect your pedals one by one in correct order and power up the pedals every time you add a new pedal to the chain. You can easily identify the faulty pedal(s) that may be responsible for the noise.

Try changing the patch cables if the problem persists.

If all does not work then you should probably get a NRG Custom Isolated Power Supply.

Confirm the input power cable is in good condition and is inserted properly to the mains socket. Change the mains socket to make sure that NRG Power Supply is getting proper input power.

If your NRG Power Supply has a power Switch, check whether it is turned ON.

The internal Over Heat / Thermal Protection might have triggered due to usage above rated capacity. Disconnect all pedals and turn on the NRG Power Supply after 5 minutes.

If nothing works, NRG Power Supply might be faulty or might have got damaged. It needs repair.

The Output Short Circuit or Over Load Protection must have triggered.

Disconnect all pedals and power up the NRG Power Supply.

Make sure that the total accumulated current draw do not exceed the Maximum Current Rating of the NRG Power Supply you are using.

Connect your pedals one by one and power up the pedals every time you add a new pedal to the chain. You can identify if a faulty pedal is causing Short Circuit.

If nothing works, NRG Power Supply might be faulty or might have got damaged. It needs repair.
